Ready for you On Day One.

Hi everyone!

My name is Nathan, and I am running to be your next AMS VP Finance.

I am a fifth-year Economics and Data Science student and currently serve as your AMS AVP Finance, where I help oversee a $35M operating budget and lead initiatives to improve and modernize our financial processes. Over the past year, I have hosted a treasurer training workshop for more than 400 club treasurers, revamped the Treasurer Canvas course to make it more practical and user-friendly, and changed our asset allocation which increased annual revenue by over $250,000.

I sit on five AMS committees, including Finance Committee, and serve as the sole finance representative on the Clubs and Societies Committee. I also created a sponsorship guide, compiled quarterly financial reports, and worked directly with treasurers to support their questions and inquiries.

I am a former club treasurer of one of UBC’s largest clubs, with over three years of hands-on experience navigating AMS financial procedures. I have also worked as a theatre manager at Cineplex for over 3.5 years, where I have hired, trained, and led a team of more than 40 staff members in a 12-theatre multiplex.

These experiences have given me a clear understanding of the financial pressures students and clubs face, and the responsibility that comes with managing your student fees. The VP Finance term is only one year, which means there is no time to learn on the job. We need leadership that is experienced, knowlegeable, and ready to act immediately.

That's why I am ready to deliver results on Day One.

Health and Dental Plan Enhancements

We've had 3 years of stagnation with the AMS/GSS Health and Dental Plan.

It's time for change and students should be the decision makers.

I will expand mental health benefits, add flexible plan options so you can mix and match your benefits, and make the plan more accessible with detailed video walkthroughs and guides on how to navigate the website and submit claims.

Financial Sustainability and Affordibility

We need steady leadership and a clear financial plan for the years ahead.

As AVP Finance, I’ve seen firsthand the challenges behind our businesses, food insecurity and the importance of long-term stability.

That’s why as VP Finance I’ll deliver a new three-year financial plan to increase revenue, strengthen responsible and ethical investment standards, lead a comprehensive student-driven review of AMS Businesses, and address growing food insecurity on campus.

Supporting our Clubs and Constituencies

Clubs are the backbone of the AMS and we need someone with experience to support them.

As a former club treasurer I understand the issues that treasurers face on a daily basis.

That's why as VP Finance I'll continue supporting clubs with a detailed treasurer handbook, invoice payment tracker, a streamlined payment submission portal and an automated reimbursement tool
